| High Order Methods for Incompressible Fluid Flow High Order Methods for Incompressible Fluid Flow
By M. O. Deville, P. F. Fischer, E. H. und Book Description:
High-order numerical methods provide an efficient approach to simulating many physical problems. This book considers the range of mathematical, engineering, and computer science topics that form the foundation of high-order numerical methods for the simulation of incompressible fluid flows in complex domains. Introductory chapters present high-order spatial and temporal discretizations for one-dimensional problems. These are extended to multiple space dimensions with a detailed discussion of tensor-product forms, multi-domain methods, and preconditioners for iterative solution techniques. Numerous discretizations of the steady and unsteady Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations are presented, with particular sttention given to enforcement of imcompressibility. Advanced discretizations. implementation issues, and parallel and vector performance are considered in the closing sections. Numerous examples are provided throughout to illustrate the capabilities of high-order methods in actual applications.

| Sound-Flow Interactions (Lecture Notes in Physics) Sound-Flow Interactions (Lecture Notes in Physics)
By Y. Auregan, A. Maurel, V. Pagneux, J.-F. Pinton Book Description:
The coupling between acoustic waves and fluid flow motion is basically nonlinear, with the result that flow and sound modify themselves reciprocally with respect to generation and propagation properties. As a result this problem is investigated by many different communities, such as applied mathematics, acoustics and fluid mechanics. This book is the result of an international school which was held to discuss the foundation of sound--flow interactions, to share expertise and methodologies, and to promote cross-fertilization between the different disciplines involved. It consists essentially of a set of pedagogical lectures and is meant to serve not only as a compact source of reference for the experienced researcher but also as an advanced textbook for postgraduate students, and nonspecialists wishing to familiarize themselves in depth, at a research level, with this fascinating subject.

| Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow By Christopher E. Brennen Book Description:
This book is targeted to graduate students and researchers at the cutting edge of investigations into the fundamental nature of multiphase flows. It is intended as a reference book for the basic methods used in the treatment of multiphase flows. The subject of multiphase flows encompasses a vast field whose broad spectrum presents a problem for the experimental and analytical methodologies that might be appropriate for the reader's interests. The aim of Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow is to bring much of this fundamental understanding together into one book, presenting a unifying approach to the fundamental ideas of multiphase flows. The book summarizes those fundamental concepts with relevance to a broad spectrum of multiphase flows. It does not pretend to present a comprehensive review of the details of any one multiphase flow or technological context; references to such reviews are included where appropriate.

| Perspectives in Flow Control and Optimization (Advances in Design and Control) Perspectives in Flow Control and Optimization (Advances in Design and Control)
by Max D. Gunzburger
Book Description:
Flow control and optimization has been an important part of experimental flow science throughout the last century. As research in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) matured, CFD codes were routinely used for the simulation of fluid flows. Subsequently, mathematicians and engineers began examining the use of CFD algorithms and codes for optimization and control problems for fluid flows. The marriage of mature CFD methodologies with state-of-the-art optimization methods has become the center of activity in computational flow control and optimization. Perspectives in Flow Control and Optimization presents flow control and optimization as a subdiscipline of computational mathematics and computational engineering. It introduces the development and analysis of several approaches for solving flow control and optimization problems through the use of modern CFD and optimization methods.

| Hydraulic Power System Analysis Hydraulic Power System Analysis
By Arthur Akers, Max Gassman, Richard Smith Book Description:
The excitement and the glitz of mechatronics has shifted the engineering communitys attention away from fluid power systems in recent years. However, fluid power still remains advantageous in many applications compared to electrical or mechanical power transmission methods. Designers are left with few practical resources to help in the design and analysis of fluid power systems, especially when approaching fluid power for the first time.
Helping you overcome these hurdles, Hydraulic Power System Analysis demonstrates modern computer-aided analytical techniques used to model nonlinear, dynamic fluid power systems. Following an overview of fluid power, the authors examine various relevant fluid properties, energy calculations, and steady state and dynamic analysis along with a review of automatic control theory. Turning to modeling, the next few chapters address valves and motors and then apply dynamic modeling to examples relating to pumps, hydrostatic transmissions, and valves. The book includes a unique chapter showing how to combine flow resistance equations with the differential equations governing dynamic system performance. The final chapter translates electrical circuit theory concepts to noise attenuation in fluid power systems.
Illustrated with many equations, practical computer modeling examples, and exercises, Hydraulic Power System Analysis provides a much-needed modernization of dynamic modeling for fluid power systems using powerful computational tools.

| Elements of Propulsion: Gas Turbines And Rockets (AIAA Education) (Aiaa Education Ser Elements of Propulsion: Gas Turbines And Rockets (AIAA Education) (Aiaa Education Ser
By Jack D. Mattingly Publisher: AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Ast Number Of Pages: 867 Publication Date: 2006-08-30 Sales Rank: 727683 ISBN / ASIN: 1563477793 EAN: 9781563477799 Binding: Hardcover Manufacturer: AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Ast Studio: AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Ast Product Description
This text provides a complete introduction to gas turbine and rocket propulsion for aerospace and mechanical engineers. Building on the very successful Elements of Gas Turbine Propulsion, textbook coverage has been expanded to include rocket propulsion and the material on gas dynamics has been dramatically improved. The text is divided into four parts: basic concepts and gas dynamics; analysis of rocket propulsion systems; parametric (design point) and performance (off-design) analysis of air breathing propulsion systems; and analysis and design of major gas turbine engine components (fans, compressors, turbines, inlets, nozzles, main burners, and afterburners).
Design concepts are introduced early (aircraft and rocket performance in an introductory chapter) and integrated throughout. Written with extensive student input on the design of the book, the book builds upon definitions and gradually develops the thermodynamics, gas dynamics, rocket engine analysis, and gas turbine engine principles. The book contains over 100 worked examples and numerous homework problems so concepts are applied after they are introduced. Over 600 illustrations and pictures show basic concepts, trends, and design examples.
Eight computer programs accompany the text, which allow for rapid calculation of trends, what if questions, conceptual design, homework problems, and homework verification. The software runs in the Windows operating system on PC-compatible systems. About the Author
Jack D. Mattingly received his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington. While studying for his doctorate under Gordon C. Oates, he pioneered research in the mixing of coannular swirling flows and developed a major new test facility. During his 40 years of experience in analysis and design of propulsion and thermodynamic systems, he has written two engineering textbooks, developed aerothermodynamic cycle analysis models, and created engineering software for air-breathing propulsion systems. Dr. Mattingly was previously at the Aero Propulsion Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB where he directed exploratory and advanced development programs aimed at improving the performance, reliability, and durability of gas turbine engine components. He retired from active duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1989 and joined the faculty of Seattle University. In 2000 he retired from Seattle University as Professor Emeritus in Mechanical Engineering to dedicate his efforts to writing this textbook and a new edition of Aircraft Engine Design, teaching short courses, and consulting. Dr. Mattingly has more than 35 years of experience in Engineering Education, earlier as a senior member of the Department of Aeronautics at the United States Air Force Academy, where he established a top undergraduate propulsion program. In addition, he has taught and done research in propulsion and thermal energy systems at the Air Force Institute of Technology, University of Washington, University of Notre Dame, University of Wisconsin, and IBM Corp. He was also founder of the AIAA/Air Breathing Propulsion Team Aircraft Engine Design Competition for undergraduate students. Among his many distinguished teaching awards is Outstanding Educator for 1992 from Seattle University. Having published more than 25 technical papers, articles, and textbooks in his field, Dr. Mattingly authored Elements of Gas Turbine Propulsion (1995) and was co-author of Aircraft Engine Design, Second Edition (2002), an unprecedented conceptual design textbook for air breathing engines that won the 2005 AIAA Summerfield Book Award.
