Summary: Simply put: a must have.

Filippone presents an accurate, detailed, well structured book that guides the reader through nearly every aspect of aircraft performance. The performance of fixed wing, rotary wing and V/STOL aircraft is considered, with the book covering both beginner and advanced topics with comprehensive derivations throughout. Unusually for technical textbooks the book is very well written and a joy to read.
The book an ideal tool for aerospace/aeronautical undergraduates and for working engineers who need a flight performance reference. Much like Timoshenko's structures textbooks and Stroud's mathematics textbooks I see this book becoming a stalwart addition to any library.

This is a well written book that aircraft designers and those engaged in a serious study of wing aerodynamics will find useful, helpful and handy. This is not a book for the novice but for aeronautical engineering specialists who can handle fluid dynamics theory, performance and other mathematical manipulations. Although the book has been around for some time (I first used it at university as a recommended text in aerodynamics over 25 years ago), the theory and concepts are still very much relevant and applicable today.
For those seeking advanced knowledge on wing aerodynamics theory and have a flair for mathematics especially calculus, this is an excellent reference book that is well recommended.

Differential Quadrature and Its Application in Engineering

In the past few years, the differential quadrature method has been applied extensively in engineering. This book, aimed primarily at practising engineers, scientists and graduate students, gives a systematic description of the mathematical fundamentals of differential quadrature and its detailed implementation in solving Helmholtz problems and problems of flow, structure and vibration. Differential quadrature provides a global approach to numerical discretization, which approximates the derivatives by a linear weighted sum of all the functional values in the whole domain. Following the analysis of function approximation and the analysis of a linear vector space, it is shown in the book that the weighting coefficients of the polynomial-based, Fourier expansion-based, and exponential-based differential quadrature methods can be computed explicitly. It is also demonstrated that the polynomial-based differential quadrature method is equivalent to the highest-order finite difference scheme. Furthermore, the relationship between differential quadrature and conventional spectral collocation is analysed.
