Fundamentals of Warehousing
Educational Workshop
Supported by SCLG
This warehousing course addresses the fundamental elements of warehousing excellence. A substantial
amount of the company’s capital is tied up in stock. The amount of capital tied up can be affected
dramatically by the level of competence of Materials and Logistics management. The costs associated
with the holding of stock can be very high.
This programme will explore each of the vital elements warehousing and warehouse management.
Who Should Attend
The Warehouse Management workshop addresses the issues and solutions that every practitioner
within the logistics, warehousing and trading industry needs to be familiar with. All new and
experienced practitioners should attend to benefit from this workshop to start or to improve their
warehouse management plans for long-term productivity.
Objectives
This 2- Day Workshop will do three things. It will:
. Explore and explain the principles, practices tools and techniques which have to be in place to
deliver excellent Warehousing performance.
. Clearly and effectively provide an understanding of how an organization needs to act to attain a
standard of excellence.
. Provide participants with a wealth of ideas on how to improve the performance of their
organization in these vital aspects of business.
Warehouse Management will highlight the following:
• Planning – Preparing bills of material to meet operational requirements.
• Organising – Ensuring a smooth flow of materials to the required point of use and;
• Co-ordinating – Checking materials used against those planned to be used, and checking that
the flow of materials is working smoothly.
Course Notes
Notes will be provided for each module and will highlight in summary the key issues raised during the
course.
Course Slides
Each course will include a set of slides which will provide delegates with a comprehensive overview of
the main topics covered and can act as an aid memoir for references.
Progress Tests
To achieve a Certificate it will require delegates to successfully complete progress tests for each
module as set by the tutor.

Trainer Profile:
Dr. Dermot Carey is an experienced management consultant,
trainer and business coach. His career spans 38 years, he has
held a number of senior management positions in both the
private and public sectors. In fifteen years of consultancy
experience he has successfully completed many major
assignments in a variety of industries at home and overseas.
An indication of his experience includes such sectors as
Healthcare, Telecommunications, Software Development,
FMCG, Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace, Aircraft Maintenance,
Airlines, Defense, Financial Services, Computer Manufacturing,
Education, Clothing, Confectionery, Electronics, Engineering,
Government Departments, Logistics, Mail Order, Oil & Gas
Exploration & Drilling, Print, Railways, Retail, Steel
Manufacturing, Software Supplies, and Ship Building. This
experience was gained in Ireland, UK, Europe, Middle East,
Africa, Malaysia, and the USA.
He is a DBA graduate from The Nottingham Trent University.
Earlier studies included an MPhil at Strathclyde University and
an MSc at the University of Ulster. He is a visiting lecturer on
Masters Programmes for colleges in Ireland the UK and Europe.
He was a founder member of the North/South Public
Procurement Initiative. He was also co-author of the paper
“Co-operation to win in Europe” which has been endorsed by
the Department of Finance in Dublin and formed the basis of
the intergovernmental agreement on the way forward in Public
Procurement.
Dermot is a specialist in management and organisation change
issues and strategies, and has established a reputation for
creative solutions in solving business problems. He is
particularly adept at ensuring that organisational structures and
human resources capacity are appropriately aligned.
